Mark Francis is an architectural designer and installation artist based in Toronto and Barcelona.
Mark's creative practice is focused on informal, participatory architecture, and incremental urbanism, subverting colonial legacies and seeking to legitimize other modes of urban social structure through the built form. His architectural and design explorations have focused on the geometric building traditions and organic form typologies of vernacular architecture, investigating their potential relevance toward user-generated urban interventions and place-making in Canada. At its core, this perspective towards the built environment strives to bring about more autonomy and eclecticism to the making of personal and public spaces.
In early 2024 Mark completed the postgraduate 3D-Printing Architecture (3DPA) program at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. He also earned his Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia, and completed a BFA in visual arts at York University.
Mark has previously been the Installation Director for Philip Beesley and the Living Architecture Systems Group, where he oversaw the design and construction of numerous projects in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Mark is currently an experimental designer and researcher in Toronto.
